Not-so-smart home

For the minor User Experience Design at the University of applied science Amsterdam I got the task to design a smartphone and smartwatch app for the NSSHome. As the name suggests, the device is not as smart as for example the 'smart-thermostat' Nest.

The NSSHome eco-system consists of 2 devices: a mechanical fan and a thermostat with central heating. Both can be connected to the wifi. The thermostat does not recognize whether people are at home and doesn’t recognize patterns in use. However, it can be pre-programmed with a weekly calendar. The ventilation can’t be pre-programmed.

Designing for small screens

The assignment was for the User Experience Minor course Small Screen Design of the, were we learned about different types of small screens and how to design for it. Important is to follow the guidelines set by the designers of the device (in this case Apple). The way to navigate trough apps on a device should be consistent.
